Ser Diamond
I owned a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES ( 1.6 ) . At 32,000 miles I changed the transmission fluid at a dealer ser
vice station: about 5qts. I am planning to do so at 68,000 miles. Is this good for the transmission? Where is the transmission filter located? At outside , inside the crankcase or inside the transmission? Some Mechanics tell me that I have to use the Mitsubishi special oil and others that Ihave to use any Dexron 3 with an aditive so to match the Mitsubishi Diamond 3 ATF SP 3 Please advice me. Thank you very much.
Changing the transmission fluid on ANY vehicle is ALWAYS a good idea. There is no external filter for your tranny and the internal one is only meant to be changed during a rebuild so don’t worry about that.
What you DO need to worry about is using ONLY real (from the dealer) Mitsubishi fluid… sp III I’m pretty sure, but check there. The best way to make sure it’s right is to let the dealer do it. Almost every tranny problem I’ve seen on modern Mitsus is due to someone servicing them improperly.
