Why the smell of nail polish?
I was cleaning his fingernails Nite past and when Jackie (the maid) came into my room that was appalled by the smell and I could tell she was cleaning the nails. I also realized that making my room smell like that. So why smells? Why there can be no smell. (Chemical engineer or scientist does not hesitate to reply as well) thanks! I have to explain the reason to keep a servant.
There is no single formula for nail polish. There are, however, a number of ingredients which types used. These basic components are: film forming agents, resins and plasticizers, solvents and coloring agents. The exact wording of a nail polish, besides being a secret enterprise largely depends on decisions made by chemists and chemical engineers in research and development stage of manufacturing. Additionally, as chemicals and other ingredients to be accepted or discredited for some uses, adjustments are made. For example, formaldehyde is often used, once in the production of enamel but is rarely used now. The main ingredient in nail polish is nitrocellulose (cellulose nitrate) cotton, an ingredient flammable and explosive also used in the manufacture of dynamite. Nitrocellulose is a liquid mixed with small, almost microscopic cotton fibers. In the manufacturing process, the cotton fibers are ground even smaller and need not be removed. Nitrocellulose can be purchased at different viscosities to match the desired viscosity of the final. Nitrocellulose product acts as a film-forming agent. For nail polish to work correctly, a hard film is formed on the exposed surface of the nail, but can not form so quickly that it prevents the material under desiccation. (Note puddings commercial or gelatin products that dry or film on an exposed surface and protect the moist product underneath.) By itself or used with other functional ingredients, nitrocellulose film is brittle and adheres poorly to nails. manufacturers add synthetic resins and plasticizers (and occasionally similar, natural products) your mixes to improve flexibility, resistance to water and soap, and other qualities older recipes sometimes even used nylon for this purpose. Due to the number of qualities involved, however, there is no resin or resin combination that meets every specification. Between the resins and plasticizers in use today are castor oil, amyl and butyl stearate, and mixtures of glycerol, fatty acids and acetic acid. dyes and other ingredients of nail polish must be contained within one or more solvents containing dyes and other materials until the polish is applied. After application, the solvent must be able to evaporate. In many cases, The solvent also acts a plasticizer. butyl stearate and acetate compounds are perhaps the most common. Finally, the enamel must have a color. The first enamels used soluble dyes, but today's product contains pigments of One Kind or another. Choice of pigment and its ability to mix with the solvent and other ingredients is essential to produce a good quality product. The nail polish is a "suspension" of the product, in which color particles can only be sustained by the solvent for a relatively short period of time, rarely more than two or three years. The problem of sedimentation is perhaps the most difficult to address in the manufacturing process. Guanine can also be mixed with gold, silver, bronze and tones. Pigment options are restricted by federal law Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which maintains lists of pigments considered acceptable and others are dangerous and can not be used. Manufacturing plants are inspected regularly, and manufacturers must be able to demonstrate that you are using only FDA approved pigments. Since the FDA lists of acceptable and unacceptable pigment change, with new findings and new tests of colors, manufacturers occasionally have to make a formula nails.

Dermatophytes of the Nails – What Kind of Nail Fungus is It?
What is Dermatophytes of the Nails?
Dermatophytes are considered to be a parasitic fungus infection of the skin. Dermatophytes is actually the name for three types of fungus (Microsporum, Epidermophyton and Trichophyton), having 40 species of fungi within the three above types.
Causing infection to the skin, hair and nails, Dermatophytes causes an inflammation and the nail infection is known as Onychomycosis. Dermatophytes don’t usually invade living tissue, but instead live on the outer layer of skin.
Diagnosis
Onychomycosis is diagnosed when a physician takes a scraping of the nail, skin or scalp and sends it off to the lap to be tested. Dermatophytes Test Medium (DTM) has been grown and formulated to identify Dermatophytes. The specimen is embedded in the culture medium where it will be incubated at room temperature for ten to fourteen days. If the fungus is Dermatophytes, the medium will turn bright red; otherwise no color change will be noted.
Transmission
Dermatophytes are transmitted by direct contact with an infected animal or human and indirectly when contact is made with infected skin, hair, brushes, seats, hats, furniture, bedding, towels, rugs and the floors in publicly used rooms (changing rooms, lockers, etc). Scars, burns and other injuries to the skin make a person more susceptible to having Dermatophytes transmitted to them.
Treatment
Dermatophytes may be treated with topical medications, such as creams. Lacquer and oral medications may also be used to treat Dermatophytes. Antibiotics also may be used to treat secondary bacterial infections.
Prevention
Skin should be kept dry. Dermatophytes thrive in warm, moist a place, which is why toes tend to harbor it, especially if the same shoes are worn continuously and are tight and uncomfortable. Be sure to wash your hands and feet regularly, especially if they’ve been exposed to moisture. Always pat your hands and feet dry with a towel after washing and make sure to dry thoroughly. Socks should not be worn more than one day and should be changed regularly. If persistent fungi infection is a problem for you, it may be recommended that you change your socks more than twice a day. You should be particularly conscious of this if your job requires your hands and feet to be continuously exposed to moisture. Be sure to wear protective gloves and change regular if needed.
If You Can, wear sandals and open-toed shoes as often as possible (but avoid going barefoot in public places as the fungus can be spread from person to person). You may also want to implement talc or other drying or medicated powders to help cut down on foot moisture. Make sure to replace your shoes regularly and if possible, wash in a scent-free or delicate washing detergent once or twice a month. Following these simple common sense rules can make a big difference in prevention of fungi.
