How do I repair damage to a laquered/veneer table top?
As luck would have it we just moved into a rented flat 2 weeks ago and a pen had leaked onto the dining table surface of the landlords table!! We tried to rub off with various cleaners but made no impression – I then had bright idea of nail Polish Remover which worked a treat on removing the pen ink however has now left a 2 inch rubbed out streak on the table top! The treated area still looks varnished and feels smooth but it is much duller than rest of table so we have taken taken off the top layer somehow? Can anyone advise what to do or is this irreparable damage?

There may be a product available that I’m not aware of in which case the first thing I’d do is check with some furniture repair and/or refinish store to see if You Can buy it.
Otherwise, buy some 150 grit sandpaper and lightly scuff sand the entire surface of the table top.
Use paint thinner and a cotton cloth or a tack cloth to clean the dust off of the table.
Purchase a spray lacquer in the same sheen (satin, semi-gloss, gloss) as the current finish and spray a few coats on the table.
Good as new.
