From India
Which is the cheapest and quickest way to send some documents from India to Australia?
I like to send some documents (less than 500 gms) from India to Australia. I feel it is very costly to send them by courier. Are there any other ways by which I can send these documents quickly and with lesser costs.
1. Scan them and send them by e-mail or fax them (obviously you thought of that already, and it’s not possible; but I had to include this for the record)
2. Go to the airport with the documents in an unsealed envelope and try to get a passenger to take them for you. (Get some current Australian stamps froma philatelic shop to make it easy for the passenger.) Whether this will work in India, where people might worry that the paper has been soaked in drugs, I don’t know.
3. Call all your friends who work for big companies with accounts with FedEx and UPS and TNT. Big companies pay a fraction of what you would pay for courier service, and sometimes they let their employees have the benefit of that low rate. (Just as Ma Bell, the US telephone company, used to have free long distance telephones in its operators’ salon where they took their breaks — so they wouldn’t make free, clandestine calls during working hours.)
4. If you have a friend at the Australian High Commission, s/he will have employee access to the diplomatic bag for mail with Australian stamps. But you’d have to be a good friend for him to send your stuff that way.
5. “Airsure” (formerly “Swiftair”) — if the Indian and Australian postal services have a bilateral agreement — is a swift and relatively cheap way to get a letter from one country to another for much less (but a few days slower) than EMS (the official postal service international courier system).
Those are things I’ve done in the past. Good luck.
